On the first of the year, I sat in the company of great friends and thought hard about what it was I wanted to accomplish in the months ahead. I haven’t traditionally held myself to many New Year’s resolutions, but I am usually up for a challenge. So, in light of the day I decided on something a bit outrageous, but also something that I really wanted. I decided my personal resolution for 2012 was to travel to two new continents.
So here I am, on the eve before I leave for my second big trip of the year, feeling pretty darn fortunate to be headed to India tomorrow and proud to say that when I land on the Mumbai runway, I will have accomplished my New Year’s Resolution for 2012. It’s not often that I honestly feel proud of myself – because I truly believe that what happens to me, about me or around me is entirely a tribute to the amazing people in my life.
But I am proud, confident and excited to be headed on this adventure tomorrow. I will walk off that plane in Mumbai alone to the complete unknown; a feeling that I’ve learned to love. I will venture into a city full of people, history, food, culture, poverty, prosperity, crime, corruption, business and Bollywood all in one.
A little quote to help you understand my challenge for this evening:
“He who would travel happily must travel light.” Antoine de St. Exupery
See you in Mumbai!
